Major Project - Truck Cab
"The noisy, polluting, gas guzzling giants are being tamed to look more demure and sophisticated, and how! The Scania Concept that we see here is a pure reflection of this new theory and is a bid to change the perception that trucks are the big bullies of the highway. It is designed to be eco-friendly and economical by using a diesel-electric hybrid engine. The innovative part comes on the wheel-hub design that sports indicative color-coded LEDs that point out speeding and other rules broken."
YankoDesign 2009
The concept aims to develop a truck based on existing chassis, and looking to achieve the following:
- Tackle the bad image associated with HGVs (noisy, polluting, gas guzzlers etc)
- Reduce the threatening appearance of the vehicles to other road users
- Improve the experience for the driver, and provide practical solutions for the interior space.
- Improve safety for the driver, and other road users
The Concept was developed during my final term at University as my major project from January - May 2009. Trucks are often seen as threatening, noisy, unsafeand harmful to the environment, giving bad perception of the vehicles. Most other road users are intimidated by these vehicles an as a result they are not appreciated on the road. |
The scania concept takes a stand to change this perception. The vehicle is designed to be friendly to the environment, using a diesel-electric hybrid engine to increase economy and reduce harmful emissions to the environment. The design challenges current trends in HGV design. |
